Meal Beach, Burra Isles, Shetland by Robin Gosnall
I cradled the young bird carefully, she was finally all cleaned off from the oil.
"Restore her to freedom " And so we walked the few more feet
to the waters edge and set her carefully down
by the foam running in joyously to greet us.
"There girl, off you go!" She wasted no time to be aloft
on the swell and it drew her back out
onto the gleaming bluegreen.
We waved and in response she began ducking
and diving in search of her first free meal in quite
sometime.

What a beautiful, delicate poem. I enjoyed the tenderness of freeing the young bird.
How nice! Our hearts burn when pics of such oil-covered birds appear. A beautiful twist to the prompt. Like it izzy!
Hank
smiles...you were very nice...and saved a life...that is a beautiful thing...so sad they even have to worry about that oil in the first place but...
Was she an Albatross , ir a Gull ? Nicely done, Izzy
Beautiful...redemptive...
I love the picture you paint here and can almost see the bird winging her way to freedom.
This evokes so much..we need each other to survive!!
Nice! Good for you, and the bird.
Giving back to nature what human's took... we can't restore all, but we owe it to do what we can. Nice.
The picture lends to mysticism but you write in concrete terms about a reality that is as spiritual as any fantasy.
Another one saved - well done!
How dear and very touching. What a bond must be built between a saved bird and the one who helps it back to nature.
there are hundreds of birds on.our south coast at the moment being cleaned from some sort of oil spill, this is thehappy end when treatment is successful
This is lovely.
