She reaches an arm across their shoulders
turning the young away from windows of idling cars
luring them into a diner on 10th
to feed the body
before offering them a job washing dishes.
Finding them clothes from a closet
showing them a bed to sleep in,
encouragement to stay in and study at night .
Been reading prompts in a poetry book and they were saying
we could look around for an alter ego- that would mean- being urban, and a night owl!

Great alter ego...and a very giving person as well!
you def capture their character...i feel her heart a bit in this in wanting to protect her family...
Izzy's Alter Ego.....
We all need to explore the Yin/Yang every so often.
Have I told you how glad I am that you are back? (I'll never stop telling you)
Loved your Inner-City 55
Thanks for playing, thanks for this creative piece of writing, have a Kick Ass Week-End
I'm pretty sure the night owl thing is my main ego.
Sounds like maybe only alter in location. :o)
Once again, no image needed here. Izzy, your poems are so descriptive and alive!
Very nice. Great character.
…some so need a guiding hand. I like this story of one person trying to make a difference!
To save bodies, she...
Not souls.
But as result, "the" result?
Feed the hungry
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
and give the soul reason to make a turnaround.
Probably not what you intended, Izzy, but.....
