Verdun, 1917 by Felix Vallotton
"Fire in the hills!"
"Lightening ?" My friend asked, since I had the binoculars.
" Hard to say- it reminds me of a battlefield-"
Black smoke everywhere- well -in Glass valley, from the river and spreading!"
"Now the sirens are starting!" The sounds rose up the scale, toward wailing,
even shrieking. We both cringed.
" I hope it wasn't from a camp fire."
" I hope it wasn't arson!"
We exchanged glances, recently the nearby prison had released
several people who had completed their sentences. One of those
was a convicted arsonist....

Interesting take.
Oh, the last thing I thought of was a prison and arsonist.
Very nicely told.
ugh, that will give you a little tension...fire is so hard to tame as well, jumping areas...and to think someone would do it just for fun...nice tension in this...
fires started by arson is a form of war.

Oh, dear!
Good place to leave us hanging! Hope they catch the arsonist.
I don't think I would sleep very well living next to a prison. I went to the zoo today and thought the same thing of it! :) Great imagination, Izzy.
Well written; thanks.
I like what you did visually..and the mystery left to be solved!
Now, it's nice little twisters like this I adore....! Hmmmmmm?
uh oh.
