Poetry Bus, 12/12/10

She loves
to cook and scatter herbs

above a turning plate
or steaming pot,

it lays scent out
and draws hearts in.

She loves to pinch
and spray tiny seeds,

rock hard shells
unpierced by wet
or temperature-

Stepping back on spiral stairs
she leads

up rocky paths
to sing with yellow birds

Can bring us to a lake
on corners of our world,

where elders wrap
colors around a fire,
to wait for stars and moon.

I love the idea of square corners on our round world! :)

Beautifully written izzy - spare, yet so rich with image and movement. Love the oppositions of the third stanza;
'it lays scent out
and draws hearts in.'
and the picture the final stanza creates is just stunning. Great stuff.

This really is beautiful stuff. There is very quiet intense energy in it reading it, just gorgeous. Have been gandering through your other posts and find this place very comfy :-)

You transform the act of cooking into a mystical journey through time and space. Very nice, Izzy!

I agree with Enchanted Oak. Superb for that reason.

I am lost in the beauty -- this speaks of generations of women through the ages, it had my mind spiraling around connecting one generation of women to the next,, perhaps it was not intended by you, however, it had intricate layers that brought it all home with the last stanza for me...
where elders wrap
colors around a fire,
to wait for stars and moon.

lovely,
joanny
